Driver charged with impaired at Rideau Lakes RIDE program

A RIDE program in Rideau Lakes Township recently led to an impaired driving charge.

Officers with Leeds OPP were performing the RIDE checks on Harlem Road at about 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 1.

As a result of an investigation related to the program, Paul Peters, 69, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). This charge has not been proven in court.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on June 28. 

His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
