Charge laid after 14-year-old reportedly assaulted at Brockville’s Rotary Park outdoor rink

Police in Brockville laid an assault charge on Tuesday after a 14-year-old was reportedly assaulted at a local skating rink.

On Feb. 6, at approximately 4 p.m., officers with the Brockville Police Service responded to a reported assault at Brockville’s outdoor rink at Rotary Park on George Street.

In a media release, police say their investigation revealed that a 22-year-old male became agitated after allegedly being subjected to verbal harassment by a group of youths. As the situation escalated, the individual in question reportedly seized a 14-year-old boy from the group and proceeded to physically assault him.

The victim sustained injuries deemed non-life-threatening. Following the incident,police gathered information at the scene, which led to the identification and apprehension of the alleged assailant.

The 22-year-old suspect was taken into custody and charged with assault, as well as failing to comply with conditions of a recognizance.

He was released under specified conditions pending a future court appearance.
