A collision that resulted in an intersection’s traffic lights being rendered temporarily out of service in Belleville Thursday evening led to a charge under the Highway Traffic Act for the driver.

In a media release, the Belleville Police Service explain that officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Coleman Street and Dundas Street West on Feb. 8, just before 10:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found a minivan that had collided with a traffic pole in the median, resulting in the intersection lights being temporarily out of service until city personnel addressed the issue. The vehicle was then removed from the scene by towing services.

Fortunately, the 34-year-old driver involved in the incident did not sustain any injuries.

Following an investigation, the driver was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
