‘Dangerous’ bush fire in Brockville near encampment

A bush fire in Brockville near what is known to be an encampment for unhoused people also led to several small explosions, police say in a media release.

On Oct. 4, at about 11:30 p.m., police responded to the area of Kyle Court to assist the Brockville Fire Department in relation to a bush fire.

Police say the fire took place in what is known to be a homeless encampment on the west end of Kyle Court.

Brockville Fire Department responded quickly and was able to control and extinguish the fire. However, police state in a press release that “the dangers of this fire cannot go unnoticed.”

Not only is the spread of fire dangerous, but there were also several small explosions that occurred, which were believed to be caused by propane or fuel containers.

Police say the encampment was found to be vacant at the time, and luckily no one was injured in the incident.

“This is an important reminder of the need for everyone to promote fire safety,” reads the release.
