Three new electric vehicle (EV) charging sites may soon be coming to Brockville.

At their Tuesday, Dec. 12 meeting, Brockville City Council unanimously approved the motion to have staff submit an application to the EV ChargeON Program no later than January 31, 2024.

Council approved up to $49,138 from the parking reserve fund to finance the installation of the three chargers. These sites would be located at 8 Water Street (formerly the Brockville Tourism building), Brockville Memorial Centre and St. Lawrence Park.

According to Leeds Grenville Economic Development “The EV ChargeON program provides funding for the installation of public electric vehicle chargers in Ontario communities outside of major cities”.

The economic development website outlines that the maximum amount of funding available per project is $1 million, wherein each potential EV charger site is considered one project.

“The goal of the program is to increase the number of public EV charging stations throughout Ontario to build a more connected network, while making public chargers more accessible and affordable and encouraging more people to switch to EVs,” Leeds Grenville Economic Development states.
