As a way to teach youth how to take care of younger children when they may be home alone, the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands is offering a babysitting course to the community.

The session runs Dec. 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lansdowne Community Building on Jessie Street.

Cost is $65 and spots are limited, meaning pre-registration is mandatory.

For youth aged 11 and up, they learn about being home alone and how to keep other children safe, including younger siblings. As well, they learn how to care for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged children.

The afternoon, meanwhile, is dedicated to first aid skills, including an introduction to infant and child CPR, how to treat life-threatening bleeding and how to use an epi-pen and asthma inhaler.
