Brockville police looking to identify suspects in multiple distraction thefts at Food Basics, Giant Tiger and more

Brockville police are looking to identify these suspects in a string of distraction thefts that took place Feb. 2.

The Brockville Police Service reports in a media release that on Friday, Feb. 2, they received multiple complaints regarding distraction theft at multiple locations throughout the city.

Incidents were reported to have taken place at the Superstore, Food Basics and Giant Tiger, and police add that “it is important to note that there could be others that have not yet been noticed or reported.”

After an investigation, officers identified two male suspects who were allegedly involved.

Police say the suspects were targeting females and attempting to distract them in order to surreptitiously steal their purse or wallet.

“Multiple items were taken and fraudulent transactions were made on victims’ financial cards,” police say.

In one incident at Food Basics, the victim became aware of what was happening and engaged in a tug-of-war over her purse, Brockville police report.

She was successful in retaining her purse and the suspects quickly fled.

As of late Saturday morning, suspects are yet to be identified. They are pictured above.

“Please be aware when out in public if you see anyone matching these descriptions,” police urge.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to notify the Brockville Police Service at 613-342-0127 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
