Brockville police lay robbery, assault with weapon charges

One suspect been arrested after a victim was assaulted and robbed in Brockville over the weekend.

Police say that on Friday, June 14, just after 8 p.m., officers received a report that a robbery had taken place in the area of Giant Tiger on Park Street.

They learned that the victim was with two other males and knew the subjects, police explain in a media release. During a conversation among the group, an alleged unprovoked assault took place where the victim was punched.

“One of the subjects, who is 26 years of age, brandished a knife while striking the victim,” Brockville police state. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say that after the subjects fled, the victim noticed that his cellphone had been stolen.

The next day (June 15) at about 5 p.m., both suspects were located on Stewart Boulevard and arrested for robbery, police say. After further investigation, one male was released unconditionally and the second, 26-year-old male was held for a bail hearing and charged with the offences of robbery with a weapon, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and fail to comply with probation.
