‘Bravely took action’: Lanark OPP officers praised for rescuing woman from fast-flowing Mississippi River

Brave actions taken by OPP officers in Carleton Place on Tuesday, April 9 are receiving praise from the area detachment commander.

Shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, a young woman in crisis jumped into the Mississippi River near Maple Avenue, OPP report in a media release.

 The OPP Mobile Crisis Response Team and other officers responded to the scene, along with members of the Carleton Place Fire Department.

“Three officers waded chest-deep into the strong current to bring the young woman to safety,” the media release explains. “All were fine after the incident.”

The young woman was transported to hospital by Lanark County paramedics.

“Thank you to these officers who, without hesitation, bravely took action to ensure this person’s safety,” stated Lanark Detachment Commander Inspector Kerlous Tawdrous.
