Belleville resident facing drug, weapons charges after stopped at PEC RIDE program

A Belleville resident is facing charges following a RIDE program conducted by the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Police state in a media release that at around midnight on Nov. 30, officers were engaged in a RIDE program along Highway 62 near County Road 3 in Rossmore. Upon interaction with a driver, officers conducted a vehicle search, and discovered and confiscated suspected methamphetamine, suspected cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and a switchblade.

Jean Legault, aged 53, from Belleville, was taken into custody and charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession of methamphetamine (schedule one substance)
  • Possession of cocaine (schedule one substance)
  • Possession of other scheduled drugs
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

Charges have not been proven in court.

The individual was released from custody and is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Dec. 20.
