Belleville police respond to incident involving knife, threats

On Saturday evening, Belleville police were summoned to an apartment in the east end of the city in response to a reported domestic dispute.

In a media release, police state that at approximately 6 p.m., officers received a call from a female complainant detailing a disturbance involving a couple. The caller informed law enforcement that a male individual was behaving erratically, brandishing a knife and issuing threats.

Officers successfully de-escalated the conflict and apprehended the 36-year-old male suspect without incident. Following the incident, the individual was transported to Belleville Hospital for a thorough assessment of his mental well-being.

Upon his discharge, the man was taken into custody on three counts of breaching an undertaking, pending a bail hearing. To ensure the protection of the victim’s identity and privacy, law enforcement authorities have refrained from disclosing the name of the accused.
