UPDATE: Belleville police identify murder suspect, victim in homicide investigation

The Belleville Police Service has charged a 30-year-old man with first degree murder after a woman was located deceased in a local residence.

Belleville police report that on May 21, just before 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a residence on Hastings Park Drive after receiving a report of a homicide at the residence.

Inside the residence, police located a deceased 26-year-old female and a 30-year-old male who had lacerations to his wrists, a media release reports.

Based on police observations and the initial investigation, the male was arrested for first degree murder. The suspect was transported by paramedics to the Kingston General Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He remains in police custody at the hospital.

Police say that the names of the accused and deceased are not being released at this time pending next-of-kin notification.

The Belleville Police Criminal Investigations Division with assistance from the Forensic Identification Section continue to investigate the incident. Uniform police personnel remain at the residence preserving scene continuity.
