A 40-year-old man is facing weapons charges after the Belleville Police Service responded to a call for service on Monday, April 29.

In a media release, police explain that at about 4:25 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to the area of Ashley Lane for a report of a male with a knife.

Officers located the man, identified as a 40-year-old male, and originally refused to drop the knife, the media release says. Eventually, he complied and was arrested without further incident.

A hunting knife and a sword were seized, police say.

Further investigation revealed that the male was bound by a probation order to keep the peace and be of good behaviour as well as other conditions.

The man was subsequently charged with weapons dangerous contrary to Section 88(1) of the Criminal Code, as well as Fail to Comply with Probation x 2 Section 733.1(1).

Police did not release the name of the suspect.

He was held for a bail hearing on April 30th, 2024.
