Belleville police arrest 2 drivers found passed out, intoxicated behind the wheel

The Belleville Police Service recently responded to two instances of drivers being found passed out behind the wheel, one of which occurred on Highway 401.

The first incident occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 1. Belleville police were called to assist emergency services on Highway 401 near Shannonville Road after a driver and passenger of a minivan were found to be unconscious.

“The pair were both found to be highly intoxicated,” Belleville police report.

The driver, 23-year-old Shivanish Khare, of Brampton, was charged with impaired driving and having more than the legal limit of alcohol in his blood. Charges have not been proven in court. He was released with an April 4, 2024 court date.

Also on Friday, March 1, at about 8 a.m., officers were called to an are near Highway 37 and Ritz Road after a male was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a truck.

Police woke the driver, and he was arrested for having more than the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

The 43-year-old Trenton resident was also found to be in possession of crystal methamphetamine and under conditions including house arrest.

He was charged with having more than the legal limit of alcohol in his blood, possession of a controlled substance and breaching his release order. Charges have not been proven in court. Belleville police did not name the suspect. The man was held for a bail hearing.
