Belleville man charged with kidnapping, assault with weapon and more

A 22-year-old man from Belleville is facing an array of charges after an incident that took place on Thursday, Dec. 29.

Shortly after 5 p.m., police were contacted by a family member of a 22-year-old Belleville woman. The family member arranged for the woman to visit the police station and speak with an officer.

Police were told that earlier in the day, the woman’s former boyfriend visited her residence, claiming to be seeking her assistance with his car radio. Once inside the vehicle, the male advised he was armed with a weapon, forced the woman to stay in the vehicle and drove off.

“While travelling to various locations throughout the city, the male smashed the female’s cell phone and threatened to kill the woman and her pets,” Belleville police say in a news release.

The woman was reportedly abandoned on the side of a road within the city’s Thurlow ward, where she reached out to her family for assistance.

Later that evening, a 22-year-old individual from Belleville voluntarily surrendered to police.

The man, whose name is not being released to protect the identity of the victim, was charged with kidnapping, weapons dangerous, assault with a weapon, mischief, uttering threats, uttering threats to kill an animal, and failing to comply with a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing today, December 29, 2023, in Belleville.
