Belleville man charged with assault after roommate reports attack

In the early hours of Nov. 7, Belleville police responded to a distress call at a residence in the west end of the city. A victim, who had been allegedly assaulted by his roommate the previous day, sought police assistance, leading to the arrest of the accused.

Police state in a media release that at about 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, officers arrived at the scene to investigate the reported assault. The victim, whose identity remains confidential, informed the authorities that he had been attacked on Monday, Nov. 6. The altercation resulted in minor physical injuries, prompting the victim to contact law enforcement for help.

Police located the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Himanshu Hooda of Belleville. Following their investigation, Hooda was taken into custody and charged with one count of assault. This charge has not been proven in court.

Police have not disclosed the details surrounding the motive for the assault or the relationship between the victim and the accused.

Hooda was later released on an undertaking, pending a court appearance scheduled for December.

Belleville Police are continuing their inquiries into the incident. Authorities urge anyone with additional information related to this case to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
