About Us

Hometownist is an independently owned local news website serving communities in the Quinte region, Lanark County and the Brockville area (Leeds and Grenville).

In an age of big corporations and social media algorithms dominating, and in some cases destroying, the way Canadians access local news, we believe the future lies with grassroots, hyper-local coverage delivered directly to readers. Our aim is to provide residents with breaking news, heartfelt stories, and other important information that affects their lives, including relevant municipal coverage presented in an accessible manner.

Hometownist is managed by co-publishers Hollie Pratt-Campbell and Cris Vilela.

Pratt-Campbell has worked in local journalism since 2009, in the roles of a reporter, managing editor and digital editor. She has covered the areas of Kingston, Frontenac County, Lanark County, Leeds and Grenville and Renfrew County.

Vilela is co-owner of the Kingstonist website, which has provided independent journalism to the city of Kingston since 2018. He also delivers breaking news and relevant information to residents via the social media accounts Make it Home Kingston, Make it Home Quinte and Make it Home Leeds and Grenville.

Subscribing to our journalism gives readers a number of perks, including early access to premium articles; a daily newsletter delivered to your inbox; the ability to comment on articles; and an ad and pop-up free experience. It also supports what we do, and allows us to continue telling the stories that matter to your community. Follow the links to subscribe to Brockvilleist, Lanarkist and Quinteist.
