‘A sad day for our community’: One person killed in Picton apartment fire

One person is dead following a fire at an apartment building on West Mary Street in Picton.  

On Friday, June 14, at around 2 p.m., OPP, Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue and Hastings Quinte EMS all responded to the fire.

“One individual was transported to hospital and pronounced deceased,” says a media release from OPP.

“We extend our condolences to the family of the victim,” Fire Chief Chad Brown said in a media release. “It is a sad day for our community with this person perishing suddenly in the fire.” 

The investigation will remain ongoing with the assistance of the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal, the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

No further information will be released at this time.
